Suggestions Box
« on: September 28, 2012, 01:43:17 PM »

The site and software will maintained again. We won't be making any major changes to the site design, nor are we aiming at a replacement or a competitor to AmiKit or ClassicWB. We like the lightweight nature of AIAB and would like to keep it that way.

Big thanks to James 'Jaybee' and FOL.

So suggestions are welcome if you have any.

Feature Requests/Suggestions:
  • Speed setter - Ref & Ref

If feasible Will be part of the 10.9 development process.

  • Install to ask for WHDLoad.key - Ref / Note: Directory Issue - Ref

Will be part of the 10.7 development process.

  • installable game patches - Ref

Will remove game disks from current game patches and reupload them. No further work will be done on this as there are a more mature HD games patch projects and I want to focus on AIAB development.

  • WARPpng.datatype Replacement icon.library 46.4? - Ref

Will be part of the 10.9 development process.

  • All setup options available on the installation GUI - Ref

Will be part of the 10.7 development process.

  • Inject the AIAB files directly into a hardfile - Ref

Will be part of the 10.9 development process.

  • Convert all archives to LHA aswell - Ref

In progress - needs to be done anyway to fix some copyright issues.

  • Radio Player - Ref

There are several Amiga sites with radio players Amiga related or otherwise. Considering the extra workload required which would reduce time spent on other projects, this will not be implemented. I'll stick to the weekly-ish single Humble Pie mp3 of my choice. Again focusing on AIAB development.

  • Provide support for Grunch and/or AmiUpdate. - Ref

Will only support if one or both have an offline update facility.

  • Articles on 'Hacking Customising the Workbench' - Ref

Yaybee has already written some articles on customising the workbench; I will extend this and add more customising tutorials, specifically related to Scalos.
Actual hacking tutorials will need to wait a couple of years.

  • Updating OS3.1 from any archive. the boingbags. Mini-tutorial/how-to with a link to amigaworld.de and the boingbags and also a link to the unofficial boingbag project. Maybe even an install script. - Ref

Will be part of the 10.7 development process. An optional list to select any external archive(s) and related install script(s) will be provided. If no install script is specified the archive will automatically be extracted over the top of the target installation as a Dropin.

Potential AIAB projects:
  • Port Eclipse.org swt as an alternative to ReAction.
  • Port Eclipse.org Code editor or Scintilla, these are my favorite code editors.
  • AIAB-68k - Use stripped down aros-amiga-m68k for a complete install.
  • AIAB-x86wb - port of AIAB-68k for an Amiga/FreeBSD alternative to KDE etc.

Bugs list will be moved:
Bugs
  • Investigate - Drawer locks when opened may be a bug  - Ref
  • - Ref

Note: Suggestions are just that, nothing is committed to until it is listed as part of a development release on the website. Consider all suggestions as vapour-ware until actual visible development is in progress.

From Neil79 at EAB
Quote from: Neil79;842470
One thing that I love about the ClassicWB is how easy it is to use and run games..

However it is a pain when loading some of the amiga 500 games that run so fast you have to go into an amiga 500 speed mode but then that slows the entire desktop down such as loading folders with tons of other folders.

Would be awesome if AIAB or ClassicWB would automaticaly slow it down when an amiga 500 game is loaded and not touch the desktop

I will add that to the suggestions list, I'll look into it when I'm fully upto speed with AIAB and it's structure.

I was also thinking of something else for the Uae control if it's not possible to do my suggestion above, you could also try and look into the uae control whereby

Two extra options in cpu speed

MAXIMUM
A500 ( GAME ONLY )
A500 ( GAME + DESKTOP )

Another Suggestion :

Myself and many others have the latest WHDLoad.key, perhaps it might be a good idea on install or even an application on the desktop in AIAB to ask if we have a key, so it installs it automaticaly for whdload games? :)

LOL, I read that post carefully ;D

Yeah sounds like something for the exe Installer, dialog box to provide path to key file and then AIAB puts it in the right place in the installation folder and subsequently in the right place on the hardrive.

Found a slight issue with WHDload and i'd recommend you or another dev to remove the old version and a  new one in!, it's complaining about WHDLOAD being an old version, so looks like i'll have to copy the files to another directory not C as if i copy over WHDLOAD and the key it says there is a problem with WHDLOAD.

gah! :(, had to move WHDLOAD and WHDLOAD.KEY from my new version to L and leave the old whdload from your AIAB in C

F:\Emulator\Amiga\Winuae\Harddrives\Workbench\L

Adding updated version of all the incorporated components is on the todo list, assuming permissions are renewed.

I'll note that directory issue down for review. Thanks for the update.

Yeh think i'm stuck now, it's using whdload 15 i'm using whdload 17+key and i don't know how to stop it from using the old whdload :(

Also When trying to run Deuteros it can't run because of a DEV\Kickstart issue... Unlike Classicwb though, AIAB has the devs folder easily visable in windows F:\Emulator\Amiga\Winuae\Harddrives\Workbench\Devs... All i had to do was create in windows a kickstarter folder in Devs\ then copy over the devs\kickstarts from classicwb i had.

Anyway of me manually updating WHDLOAD MadAngus? to stop it from loading whdload ver 15

One tip here, never copy files across in windows.
Windows screws the files up, its always better to do it from within the emulator.

How so? it's the same files... the same hard drive folder names.

The folders are identical :), so far the only issue's have been AIAB being a bit out of date... Besides i had to get the files into classicwb in the first place which was all windows movements lol

Note to myself.

Drawer locks when opened may be a bug relating to info files, investigate.

Some ideas.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

An idea. That being installable game patches, whereby after installing the game you run it's AIAB gamepack installer for that game. That would remove any legal issues. Could do it for any Back to the Roots game then. Would need artists though for game Icons. See Jaybees icons, attached, very nice.

Very rough idea for further investigation down the line.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Just noticed this icon.library 46.4 test versions. Hopefully can make use of it as WARPpng.datatype is a 30 day trial.

Will investigate further.

Another interesting idea Windowblinds rollup shade etc.

I agree with the installation system Jaybee used. I would prefer to somehow have the options available on the installation GUI which then sets a switch(s) so the script doesn't ask the questions. That way if it was an archive install the switch(s) would not be set and therefore the option questions would be asked. Best of both worlds. Another idea for the pot.

Lots of user selectable options is definitely the way to go.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

In fact it might be better to concentrate any development of application addon packs on Bloodwych's ClassicWB and do some kind of modification, if needed to get them working on AIAB. It would be better to have once source of application pack than several different interpretations. Would need some thought though.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Using ADFlib allow the Windows installer to create a new hardfile, format it, extract and inject the AIAB files directly into the hardfile. Bypassing the windows file system altogether.

------------------------------------------------------------

These ideas are generally for the long term but I want to get them down.

Suggestion:

All the archived files being converted to LHA. i.e. extracted onto a WinUAE harddisk and re-compressed in LHA format.
